This dramatic illustration of the mountainous scenery of Prince William Sound shows the Discovery and Resolution anchored securely and, in the foreground, natives in canoes and kayaks. Snug Corner Cove became a favorite anchorage for the early explorers who followed Captain Cook. It was here in 1787 that Captains Portlock and Dixon discovered the icebound vessel of John Meares and the few survivors of his crew.
