This map is a French copy, made without changes, of the original English map of Vancouver’s survey of the west coast of North America as published in London by Stockdale in 1795 and reprinted in a second edition in 1798. Immediately on his return to London, Vancouver set about writing his memoirs and recording his epic four-year survey, but he died before completing the account. One of his officers, Peter Puget (after whom Puget Sound is named), finished the work, which was published in 1798.
